Local & Out-of-Towner Volunteers Needed!

Nancy Groves and I, as conference co-chairs, would love to hear from you about the conference. Several local San Diego Bromeliad Society members have volunteered for key committees: Robert Kopstein (plant show chair); Scott Sandel or Morlane O’Donnell (plant sales co-chairs); Ed Doherty (speakers committee chair); George Long (exhibits & displays chair); Stephen Zolezzi (food & beverage chair). In addition, I have a running list of locals and out-of-towners who have said that they will volunteer for as-needed jobs during event week. We are off to a great start, but we would love for some others to help make this a success.

Are you out of town and interested in being a part?

If you are from another Southern California affiliated bromeliad society, or even if you hail from far away, your volunteer help could contribute to make the 2018 World Conference in San Diego a success. Maybe your local society would like to put together an exhibit? Are you able to help with a small task that can be done long-distance? I have started a list of some things that could easily be accomplished long-distance. Feel free to contact me [Scott] at Scott.Sandel@outlook.com if you want to hear more! Here is the list:
  • Organizing publicity with your local BSI affiliate chapter
  • Getting donations for conference attendee Welcome Bags
  • Staff the Registration/Welcome Center Desk during the event
  • Provide staffing for one of the bus tours, such as the Full-Day Tour to San Diego Botanical Gardens, or one of the Home Tours
  • Sign up for a security shift during one of the days at the show or sale
I hope to hear from you! Hit the Sign-up link.

Hi Lisa. Thanks for volunteering!!! Did you see any of the tasks I listed that interest you the most? ...Maybe the Welcome Desk/Registation Table - or one of the tour bus events?

Unfortunately, since this is a fundraiser, costs are fixed for everyone, even me. But we may put on a thank-you event/tour for all the volunteers with our part of the proceeds that SDBS may get if the event does well.

I volunteered for the banquet bus tour during the conference held in Hawaii and would like to do the same for the bus tour in San Diego. Please let me know if this is possible.

Hi Dina. Are you registered for the conference? All volunteers are welcome. Can you send me an email to sandel-marich@cox.net -- so that I have your contact details?

Yes, I am registered for the conference. Do I have to make a reservation for the tour bus as well? If so I will do it today.

That's great Dina. Indeed, you need to sign up for the optional bus tour, and you can find info and a link for the registration PDF form on the second pull-down on this website's World Conference tab.

I may be interested in volunteering. What's involved, as I'm not currently a member.

Hi Carol. Thanks for messaging us. We have several volunteering positions available (sales, show, tours, etc.). Soon ,we'll have an on-line place to sign-up to volunteer and pick from several categories and days/times. Stay tuned, ok? But please message me again if you have any specific questions.

Using SignUp.com to register volunteers was a great idea! It is so easy to see all the spots available and add your name. And you get an email with your volunteering dates and times, plus a reminder the day before, so you don't forget!
